BASS & TOG

(WED) Today we had a charter for Willy and his nephews from California for a day of Togging. We got anchored up on the piece and not much life a few shorts and a keeper plus the dog fish. A friend of ours gave us a call and said the birds were going crazy and the Bass were biting. We pulled the hooks and steamed over there and were into fish right away. The guys caught about 15 or so Stripers and kept a few for the dinner table. The last hour or so we anchored up again on a wreck and pulled a few more keeper Tog for the day with some shorts too.

TOG

(monday) This A.M we ran a charter for Jeff and his buddies for a day of Togging, we hit three drops for the day with life on all the pieces. We fished depths from 50 to 75 ft and the shallower pieces were better. Some of the Tog were off on the color, not sure if it was from the blow the day before or the water temperature dropping or both. We picked and plucked all day with keepers and a lot of short action, most of the shorts just missed the mark real heartbreakers. The weather was a little nasty in the A.M with the cold and a stiff wind but by day’s end it was nice,it was the first day we made ice. The charter finished up with 23 keepers for
the day.

PICKY TOG BITE

Today we ran our open boat Tog trip and the fishing was picky, hit four drops for the day with just some fish on each drop. We hit pieces from 60 to 90 ft in different areas and did not matter. On the last drop at least the size of the fish were quality. Danny was HH with his limit of six keepers and a few other guys with four, overall to many drops for the amount of fish.

TOUGH TOGGING

This A.M we ran an open boat Tog trip and were greeted to a nice Southerley roll.We ran down South to where we left them chewing yesterday and it took almost twenty minutes to get our first fish. It was a slow dismal pick of keepers and way to many shorts. We were not happy with that so made a move and boy that was it for the day, it just got worse and only managed a few more keepers for the cooler. Andy was HH with 8 keepers and down from there. The first fish that came up today was a fluke.

We made a move to piece number two and that was it for the day.The fish were coming for the rest of the day to we had our full boat limit. Andrew was hot today with 15 keepers (orl) and even had double header keepers, Ken had ten (orl) keepers and everyone else did well too.

TOG ARE BITING

Today we ran an open boat Tog trip with some regulars and a few new guys. The first drop we had a few keepers and some short life and it was not fast enough so we moved on to drop number two. The second drop was slow just a few more keepers and shorts nothing special so here we go again. The wind has now totally flopped now and made sitting still a little difficult, the next two hours or so was pretty slow. It is almost time for the current to change and finally got some South wind and some incoming current which is perfect conditions. We spread the anchors and within five minutes we had a good chew going on for a solid hour or so. Danny was HH with 10 keepers (ORL) and Andrew had 8 (ORL) Dan had 6 and everyone else had about four with good amount of short action too.

good togging

This A.M we ran an open boat Tog trip and had to make several drops to put a catch together. The first drop we got a quick handful of keepers and then it died,so we took a steam to another piece but that was no good either just a keeper and some shorts. The next two drops were slow as well, the clock is ticking away and had to find a drop that would put some meat in the boat and we did. The last drop bailed us out with a nice steady pick for the next two hours with nice keepers and plenty of short action. Tommy and Frank both had seven a piece(orl) and Drew had five and down from there. By day’s end we grinded out a catch, it is never how you start but how you finish up.
